4 farmers' organisations: ADEAC, BINUM, NOWEFOR and CROPSEC.
ADEAC (Association for Integral Development of Farmers from the Central Region) ADEAC works mainly on
the development of three sectors: cocoa, palm oil and bananas. Moreover, in 2004 ADEAC launched its own microfinance scheme: 552 members have accumulated savings amounting to 7,5 million FCFA (11.444 EUR). The volume of credit is limited to 1,6 million FCFA (2.439 EUR).
BINUM (Association of small producers from the Western Region) BINUM has 1.307 members. Apart from enhancing the functioning of production networks (palm oil, plantain bananas, potatoes, peanuts and manioc), BINUM has also launched a microfinance scheme, “BINUM Tontine”, which operates today through 15 agencies and has 2.675 members (29% women). The volume of savings and credit reaches 110 million FCFA (167.694 EUR). Repayment rate is of 97%. 66% of credits go to agriculture.
NOWEFOR (Northwest farmers’ organisation) After an internal crisis in 2003 NOWEFOR has taken up actions leading to recovery. Its focus on agricultural production mainly concerns potatoes and ginger. Moreover, the organization launched cattle vaccination campaigns and created stores offering farm inputs. NOWEFOR has also created a micro-finance scheme. Each of its four centers has the current credit volume of about 5 million FCFA, (7.622 EUR). In 2004 the volume of savings grew by 7,3%, reaching the average of 20.400 FCFA (31 EUR) per member. Repayment rate is of 91%.
CROPSEC (Regional Council for Farmers’ Organizations) CROPSEC (present in the far North of Cameroon) takes up various actions, among which there are: enhancing the role of women members, cattle vaccination campaigns or peanuts’ stocking and marketing. CROPSEC also set up a network of 9 savings and credit agencies (CMEC) with 1854 members (55% women). However, its achievements have been relatively modest so far.
N.B. Although financial support comes from both SOS Faim, SOS Faim Luxembourg is entirely responsible for the project supervision.
