Microfinance
SOS Faim was among the first European NGOs to promote microfinance as a tool in the fight against poverty. Microfinance gives access to banking facilities (loans, savings credit or insurance) to people who are excluded form traditional banking system due to their economic status.
The social dimension of microfinance, i.e. the fight against poverty, is at the heart of our support for the partners.
Microfinance should enable its beneficiaries to develop their own profit making activities and. It is equally important to ensure the continuity of microfinance institutions through sound management so that they can benefit the maximum of the people concerned.
In the long term, activities developed through microfinance should enable their beneficiaries to improve their living conditions, to restore their dignity and to gain economic and social autonomy.
