AN APPEAL FOR COHERENT EUROPEAN POLICIES FOR DEVELOPMENT

appeal_luxemburg_coherenceIn October 2008, Farming Organizations and NGO's, from the North and from the South, have worked together in Luxemburg on a common position to call the political parties in European countries for a coherent approach for development. Agricultural and Commercial policies have to be consistent with the Development strategy. In that sense, food sovereignty is a priority and should be included in the International and European policies having a bearing on Agriculture, International trade and Cooperation. FOOD CRISIS : FARMERS' VOICESEP 8 october 2008

7 October 2008. In a hearing at the Committee on Development of the European Parliament, farmers representatives have presented their positions and requests in respect with the food crisis. They have stressed the role of family farming organisations, and the imperious necessity to invest in small scale farming. Read their interventions. Also available in French.

EU chicken dumping in West and Central Africa

The export of surplus meat-parts to poor countries constitues a threath to the producers in those countries. Five NGOs including SOS Faim urge the EU to put a stop to these destructive trade.

The African farmer is being wiped off the map

Farmers’ organizations have true reasons to fear having small farmers being wiped off the map, with the current position of the European Commission in the negotiation of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). The networks of farmers’ organizations of the five ACP sub-regions (Central Africa, East Africa, Southern Africa, West Africa and the Caribbean) have carried out their reflections and comments some months ago.
