2021, Reechanting rural youth

Rural youth • 20 June 2022

You have been waiting for it impatiently, here it is, the SOS Faim annual report 2021 is out and gives an overview of the actions we have carried out over the past year, here in Belgium as elsewhere in the world.

For this report, the focus is on rural youth, an essential and promising driving force for sustainable agricultural development. You will find out the promising initiatives taken by young rural people in three West African countries as well as a competition that supports young coffee producers in their agroecological transition through agroforestry.

In addition, a large part of the report is dedicated to our advocacy work to influence policies in favour of peasant agriculture and sustainable food systems.

In 2021, despite the consequences of COVID-19, we continued our support work in our different countries of action, of which Uganda is now one. Our actions with our 59 partners have made it possible to support in 2021 nearly 1,704,000 peasant families in Africa and South America !

But the year 2021 also meant new things ! We developed a new strategy focused on the agro-ecological transition and have launched a new podcast “Champ d’actions”. Seven episodes have already been published on agro-ecological topics and they are attracting more and more curious people.

The year was also marked by the continuation of our Hunger Race event, after it was cancelled and postponed. 80 teams were present for this beautiful solidarity race.

Finally, the 13th edition of the Alimenterre Festival was also held, a flagship event of the year which is becoming international in various African cities. Every year, it raises awareness of tomorrow’s agricultural and food issues.

Find out all these projects in more detail as well as all the efforts of these young committed farmers in our annual report.
