Hans Herren, director of Millennium Institute, denounced the inaction of politicians on climate issue. He recommends more than ever that agriculture be placed at the top of solutions to effectively fight climate change.
“Since agriculture is responsible for almost half of emissions of greenhouse gases, why not make it a solution to the problem? By returning carbon into the ground, agriculture could indeed reduce the carbon load in the atmosphere. Organic farming, also called regenerative farming, could not only restore soil fertility and curb climate change by absorbing emissions from agriculture, but, what is more, also absorb one and half times the amount produced by other activities. “
Hans Rudolf Herren has led a comprehensive project: the International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD), which report was published in April 2008. In December 2015, he will attend the COP 21 in Paris with a number of people from the agricultural sector, among them, Vandana Shiva. Together with the organization called Regeneration International, they organize events to influence decision makers.
