“The countries that suffer most from hunger are also those with the highest
levels of gender inequality”. According to the World Food Programme (WFP), 60% of people suffering
from chronic hunger are women and girls. It is estimated that if women had the same access to productive resources as men, they could increase yields on their farms by 20% to 30% or total
production by 2.5% to 4%; and reduce the number of undernourished people by 12% to 17% (between 100 and 150 million people).
